I use household items and industrial materials to explore identity, displacement and the concept of home. These hybrid works are often rooted in the language of abstraction and the idea of stretching the painting genre beyond traditional interpretations. “I don’t ask myself what is painting?-I ask myself what else can painting be?”
Clara Varas is a Cuban born, Miami based artist. Varas Holds a BFA in painting from the School of Visual Arts, New York, NY. She was a finalist for the 2015 Cintas Fellowship in Visual Arts and first place winner of the Seventh All-Media Juried Biennial at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, FL.
